It's Friday, January 11, in the evening. A trucker passes a blockade of Yellow Vests in Liège. He's tired, he wants to go home. One Yellow Vest tries to stop the truck. The movement must grow, surely a trucker can understand that? It's him they're fighting for after all… The protester climbs on the bumper to look the trucker in the eye. The windscreen becomes a mirror – a moment of hesitation and recognition. He could be the man behind the wheel. We're fighting for you, hey shouts. He bangs on the windscreen with a spanner. The driver panics and drives off – and the protester is dragged under the truck. Fury turns to fear.
This tragic incident is the starting point for Stijn Devillé's new performance about this new and ambiguous phenomenon of resistance and social struggle. Yellow Vest is part of a trilogy together with 9,6 (a defense) and Groupe Diane .
I play the role of Priscilla, a hard-working woman with three jobs who can't make ends meet at the end of the month. Priscilla does not accept her situation and chooses to take action.
